I have a new addiction these days :) Short Films!!! From last 3
days I have watched over 50 short films in Hindi, Telugu, Marathi & Tamil;
and I LOVE them. I was wondering how come I never came across these earlier.
I have always loved and admired our Indian advertisement’s
creative department. The stories they put in a video of few seconds to couple
of minutes is just awesome. They have a good story line, awesome actors,
screenplay, direction, music and also succeed in getting their message across.
I mean look at the ads of Virgin mobile, Asian paints, Fevicol, Airtel, Surf
Excel, Imperial Blue etc…
Below are some
examples of recent commercials; I have embedded YouTube links to these videos (I am not even including our good old
Doordarshan time ads like Jaleebiiii or Cadbury dairy milk or Hamara Bajaj etc…)
- Some heart touching ads like Airtel , ICICI , Asian Paints .
- Some beautiful ads with social message like - Dekh Le on woman empowerment, Aaj Tak on Eve teasing, The Hindu on Youth is watching, Times of India on Lead India, Mother diary on Moms, Respect National Anthem, Silent National Anthem, 60 years of Freedom, The Hindu on the Prime Minister.
- You really don’t need words to send your message across. Look at some of the Vodafone ads like Vodafone Ad1, Vodafone Ad2 or Imperial Blue Ads like Imperial1, Imperial2.
- In recent years, we have also had competitors openly challenging each other, with strong ads like Hindu against Times of India - Ad1, Ad2. We also have few soft drink ads on similar lines.
Last few weeks have been very busy for India, as it was going through its elections. It has equally been busy for all the social platforms - creating videos to increase awareness amongst the people, explaining importance of voting, campaigning for different political parties etc... I happened to come across a link to one such video as a forward message, and since it was related to elections I started watching it (MUTE and UNMUTE by Ram Subramaniam). And hence the series of watching short films began.
Some of the short films I saw were from Idea Cellular Ltd movies, Pocket films, Hamara Movies, Whistling Woods International Films (WWI Films), Handloom Picture company. And these movies made me realize that you can deliver a great entertaining piece without all the noise like songs, dances, fights, hooliganism etc...
Check these out; just a few that I liked.
- Oye Teri - A hilarious one on extra marital affairs (I loved this one so far!)
- They talk too much , Girl and Autorickshaw, Haircut, - on different aspects of society
- Ek choti si love story, Traditional Girl, He said She Said, Made in Heaven, Soulmates , Arranged Marriage- On Love and Marriage
- Beti, The Promise, The Gift , Padmini, 2 Idli 2 Vadai , Good Bye - Emotional ones
- Gunaah, Visitor, Suspense movies
Yes, story in just few minutes; bus paanch minute ki kahani! Suits today's busy world!
