I am not a movie buff. Except for Avengers, Iron Man, Bourne series - no other movies motivated me to drag myself to a theater and spend 2-3 hours there. But I enjoy watching movies in theaters; once am there.
However, one thing I have come to realize is when am in the theater for some good movies; I literally hate chit-chatting. Muffled talks, munching, paper bags crackling, people walking around - all these drive me nuts!! Especially POPCORNS!!!! Every time a popcorn crackles in somebodies mouth, the sensors in my ears quadruple the effect in my mind with Dolby digital style.
Any fancy Bollywood time pass movies with no story-line; understandable. People come to relax, so yeah, some snacks, some commentaries etc.. I am not against those, and I enjoy them as well. The agenda there is to have fun and relax.
But a movie like "Dunkirk" that's based on world war II - It's not a time-pass movie. Imagine you are sitting there watching a scene where the soldiers are hiding in a boat, holding their silence so they don't attract the attention of the enemy; and are communicating through expressions - and on your right you here crackling munching sounds of popcorn, on your left someone passing the packet of snacks across with rustling sound of paper. Really guys! Or is it just me who is so cynical? The director of the movie has chosen what the background score should be in each scene; and in that scene it was supposed to be silence with a bullet shot once in a while. Why do you want to add your own music to it?
In the entire movie, I hardly found a 10 sec window that called in for a relaxed popcorn munching. Bollywood movies - most of them yeah, they have 3-5 songs of 3 mins each, there's always a orchestra like background score; so all these sounds get buried in the movie.
Anyway, I think, it's just me over reacting. A standard response from anyone for this would be - well then sit at home and watch the movie. But I still feel, some movies deserve the respect from the audience.
