Alright. Game of Thrones earned itself one more fan!
I had started watching GOT years back during its first season and I don’t recall what season I stopped following it. Not much of a TV person; don’t have subscription for any TV channels. Whenever I have to watch something I go to Netflix or Prime. Maybe between season 2 and 3 or somewhere; I just stopped following it.
But now that the season was to end this year; I was motivated to watching it all over again. I got the crave subscription for HBO couple of weeks back and started watching right from season 1 till season 8; it was crazy few days; but I wanted to be with the rest of the world when I watched the last episode; so I had to catch up.
And of course as world of internet has it, last season isn’t going great; but one thing that I couldn’t stop getting awed about; was music.
I fell in love with Ramin again; when I felt his background score for the Great War scene in 3rd episode ‘The long night’; where everything was falling apart and the Night King was walking towards Bran; after a long time I felt a mix of so many emotions while watching something. The anxiety, fear, anger, frustration, sadness, hope, love - I could feel all these when the chaos and screams were all silenced by this piece of music. The fans generally say, if a piano starts playing we know that shit got real in GOT. That was how real the story became. Precisely why I wrote “I felt” his music; I dint hear the music, I didn’t listen to the music, I just felt it all the way till the end; the timing was so epic, that the moment it started playing, it just directly touched my heart.
And GOT is probably the only series where I couldn’t hate someone all through neither like someone all the way through. Its like there’s over 100 shades of grey in a person; and situations make them good or bad. S8 dint live up to people’s expectations; doesn’t matter how they will end it; if Kings Landing is wiped clean; it feels like show came a full circle. What the mad father was stopped from doing, the daughter fulfilled it.
Anyway, I don’t want to bitch about the last 3 episodes of the season. Season 1 through Season 8 - E3; I loved it. And best of all it gave amazing music to the world throughout! And of course, my favourite character Arya Stark(IMO and Varys were close too)
I can’t say I will miss it, because I never waited on it’s season year after year like my friends did. But I can now relate to how fans must be feeling that this epic saga is coming to an end. Being an Avengers fan; when I saw the End Game; I felt a void. It’s the same feeling here; it was the best show ever on TV I must say; especially for folks like me who still love swords, horses and arrows in the era of guns.
Like I said in some other post, a poor ending should not ruin the whole journey; and having relived all the seasons in last 2 weeks, GOT was an incredible journey for the world.
It's hard to pick your favorite theme, but 'The Night King' and 'Rains of Castamere' touched me deeply; both the music and the screenplay (episodes The Long Night and The Red Wedding); has made me forever a loyal fan of GOT.
And now my watch has ended! Hodor!
