Opening your eyes to something beautiful first thing in the morning; is always special. It has the power to set the mood for the entire day. Just those few seconds in the morning, as soon as you open your eyes, what you see or hear or feel in that moment, sets the tone for rest of the day.
We have a famous saying in Hindi we use when day goes real bad - 'subah subah kiski shakal dekhi' meaning 'whose face did you see first thing in the morning'.
This morning I woke up, switched off my alarm, and as a daily ritual checked the weather and then my messages. A set of messages from my dearest and lifetime friend brought a broad smile on my face, made me think of the impact it had. If I read the same messages sometime later in the day when my brain would be busier, I don't think I would have felt so deeply as I did in the morning.
Back home during my vacation couple of months ago, my nephew who is just a year old, would come and wake me up. Seeing his face first thing in the morning, that innocent smile, it was a priceless feeling.
When you just wake up, and your brain is free or blank from any sort of emotions; the first instance your brain finds to react, it probably does it with greater intensity.
Not that I did not know this before, but I just realized, that beautiful days make wonderful life; and for that opening your eyes to something pleasant almost always works.
I can't assure if I can win the world by waking up with a smile; but hey, staying grumpy doesn't do the trick either.
So, here's to more wonderful days this year, cheers!
