My Favorite Read - 1 - A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman

I have been meaning to write about the books that I have enjoyed reading for quite some time now; but amidst all the chaos, I never got a chance or made time to write.  Am finally starting series of reviews about the books I have enjoyed reading; and although there are lot of them that I have loved, I cannot think of a better one than this to start my series; one that I recently finished reading. A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman It's the way this book is written; it's so refreshing, and all the characters, you just fall in love with them. Ove, Sonja, Parvaneh, Rune, the cat, the dog, the Saab - the emotions of a man tied to tool box, radiators and all the other hardware mechanics in the world. We have a famous comedy series in Hindi - Sarabhai vs Sarabhai. For people who know what I am talking about, can you recall Dushyant? The way he gets so emotional about a broken lift or refrigerator or water cooler. Basically, he portrayed a comic version of...

Creator of Super Heroes - Will Miss You Stan Lee!

Man who let billions of people like me dream about a different world away from this world.  Man who gave life to super humans.  Creator of the Avengers, Captain America, the Fantastic Fours, X-Men, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, Spider man and inumerous others. Man who gave me Ironman.   Watching Marvel movies wont be the same again, without getting a glimpse of you in the movie.  This poster on my wall, that has been with me for a while now, will always remind me of your smiling face.  You will always remain alive in my memories. Rest in Peace Stan Lee.  Sarita Dated - 12th November 2018  The day that world will pay tribute to Stan Lee for years to come.

Alone & Happy, not Lonely!

There's a difference between the two states of being; being alone & being lonely.  I am single and  have been  alone in new places all by myself; with little or no acquaintances; let alone friends. When you are single, it's a common norm for rest of the world to investigate about your companionship needs.  Single people are often surrounded with friends and family that give them company.   In my case, I have got used to staying alone as well. And trust me I do just fine. I do miss them but I don't get depressed or frustrated when I don't find the company of my friends or family. So I am single and alone and happy. That said, it's not that I don't have friends or I am not social. I am very social, enjoy parties, hangout with friends when I meet them; I am not an introvert, am more of a happy go lucky kinda person. When I say I am alone, I am in company of myself. And I have realized that I enjoy my company a lot, so I never feel lonely.  ...

Breaking Barriers - Meetup with Strangers!

It's amazing how I always find something new to learn or experience. I moved to Toronto,Canada recently. Have no friends here, and just 2 acquaintances (more of reference contacts who stay in Toronto in case I needed help).  First couple of months went in getting the logistics lined up, so was busy. This weekend was the first time, when I wanted to explore the city, and I did not know where to begin.  Google has been my best buddy in Canada so far; always at my disposal and ready to guide me. But I wanted to go hiking this weekend, and I did not want to do it alone, nor did I have time to do detailed study of trails etc...  I am not a social network person. I have Facebook account, which once in a while I log in. No twitter or Instagram accounts. Whattsapp, I keep it updated for my family to know my whereabouts. The only thing I love is blog'ing.  Copyright - Brainy quote. So, very nervously, I registered on Meetup. Then searched for groups with keyword h...

Get Married..Or you might turn Gay?

I have an amazing bunch of friends; and my life has been a beautiful journey partly because of them. No doubt, they care for me and carry my best interests in their hearts. There are only a few of them, whom I have given the right and liberty to advise me. and not that I really listen to everything they have to say; I just hear them out. :) But this conversation has been the best so far I have had; it kind of still cracks me up. No offense to my friend; he is not an avid reader of my blog; so I don't think he will read this; but if ever he does; disclaimer - don't take it personally, I still love you my friend! I am single; and I know the world is moving at a faster pace; babies are born everywhere; kids are going to school in all parts of the world; all my friends and cousins are mommies and daddies; and I obviously am left far far behind in this race. Honestly, I can care less; or rather I haven't found time to worry about it yet. And this does worry people who lov...

Dated- 20th May 2018

You like because..You love despite

I don't remember where I came across this phrase, but it does make perfect sense in our world. When you like something or someone, there is a reasoning behind it. But when you love anyone there is no true logic or reasoning. When the reasoning hits your relationship with loved ones; you try to justify it or just live with it. You love someone despite of all their flaws. Like they say everything is fair in love and war; or that love is blind. - Sarita Dated - 8/25/2018

Arijit Singh - I Bow to You.

It's been a while that I have liked any latest songs. Songs from 80s and ghazals still play when I am in mood for some good music. Not that there hasn't been good music in recent past. But after a long time this song touched my soul. Arijit Singh had made it to my list of favorites long back. But he was still not in that elite league of singers to whom my head bows with respect - Jagjit Singh, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Mohd. Rafi, Ghulam Ali, Mehdi Hasan, Bhimsen Joshi and M S Subbulaxmi . ( I am not listing the musicians here; just the singers who humble my heart and soul. I have a different list of elite musicians and directors and actors covering Yanni, Kenny G, Pancham Da, Hans Zimmer, Madhubala, K K menon, Aamir Khan and so on; whom I duly respect. But this post is dedicated to singers. ) I had been to Raazi movie last week and heard this song for the first time - Ae watan. I heard it again after that with my headphones on, eyes closed;and I just surrender...

When Life Humbles You

When you are planning life, life makes it's own plans and often takes you by surprise. Not that you grow arrogant knowingly, but we all tend to take life for granted while on our mission to success. There are often times when we oversee simpler yet most important ingredients of life. I believe that's when someone takes control of  life  to put a brake and slow you down. It has various innovative ways to slow you down. Nothing uncommon in the world, but definitely very new to you. I have always been slowed down by life, ever time I rushed through doing tens of thousands of things. Now looking back, I think once every 2-3 years, I am pulled over the freeway of life for speeding. This time it was my health. I have been an anti doctor anti hospital person despite of coming from family of doctors. I believe in home remedies. Steam will take care of my cold; drink some herbs for immunity, tolerate pain without painkillers, go to gym or running when you have headache so on and...

When world conspires to mock at you....

So my friends, as of this day, I am the proud owner of a ruptured appendix. Yes, I did it. It wasn't in my bucket list; but apparently my body thought better of me. I not only did get into appendicitis situation; but I also heroically ruptured it, and went through the pain for over 7 days thinking it was my boxing class effect; until I forced myself into a second opinion with general doctor who suspected it to be ruptured appendicitis with local peritonitis or abscess and rushed me to ER (being in ER and hospital for over a month; I have learnt some fancy medical terms). Well, long story short, I have been on IV fluids, antibiotics etc..etc.. for over a month and will be undergoing surgery next week. Considering my house arrest situation, with restricted travel and no jumping jacks; my life has turned into a slow motion scene from any Bollywood movie; where the hero/heroine run towards one another and camera captures them in slow motion. I don't run around any...

Dilemma of a Scarred Heart

Here I stand again at the crossroads I can see him coming I can feel the winds changing When I stitched my heart together I swore never to let it break again But now I want to give him a chance It's a gamble again A bright future with all shades of relationship or a world of pain with broken dreams I stand there asking just one question Will I let him break my heart again? Dedicated to the dilemma of every broken heart trying to find love again! - Dated 22nd April 2018
