"Have you ever observed dewdrops up close?" she asked looking at a shining dewdrop on the blade of grass right in front of her nose.
It was just a little over 5:30 in the morning, another 15 minutes for the sunrise. She was lying on the grass face down with her elbows propped up and chin resting on her palms, her knees bent, legs crossed with feet facing the sky.
He lay next to her, on his back observing the birds in the sky.
He turned around bringing his attention to her face, watching those strands of brown hair falling on her face dancing to the tune of the light breeze, he thought of the moment when he had seen her the first time.
Running his finger along the outline of her arched neck, he said "Not really. Why?"
They had walked, rather ran, 2 miles up hill at the break of the dawn to watch sunrise. This was their first sunrise out in nature together.
"I find them amazing. So small, yet so defined. Every drop clear as a crystal and they shine like diamonds. It's like they polished themselves out of insignificant invisible moisture in air into these precious little droplets." she said continuing to look at the drop from all angles.
"Only you can bring philosophy into something as simple as dewdrop. Your brain operates in mysterious ways lady." he said laughing lightly
She hit his shoulder and said "No really. I wonder at these small things. These dewdrops for instance, they will evaporate in a few minutes; but then come tomorrow, they will find ways to recreate themselves and shine again. So much like us humans."
"Wow. They were just dew drops to me, but now they seem like Jason Bourne, like some superpower induced heroes." he said in a cryptic voice and laughed. He loved messing with her just to see her get rattled like a child at times.
"Every-time you talk like this, I just fall in love with you again. You express some profound thoughts in simple words sneaking them in regular conversations." he said kissing her hand. "Sometimes I wonder how did you end up in this profession. But then I think it just seems right, you fit in, in-fact we need more people like you there."
He fell back on the ground, crossed his arms on his chest, closed his eyes and started humming "Strumming my pain with her fingers, Singing my life with her words.."; Perry Como's "Killing me softly" was their favourite song.
She was an Army medical doctor who also comforted a lot of patients with their PTSD. Counselling came to her naturally. And he was a special operations medical sergeant. They had met in a base camp almost 16 months back, and were dating since a year.
She watched him with her soft brown eyes, his toned body lying on the bed of grass, he seemed perfect, like he belonged to nature. She had felt a connection with him the moment they ran into each other in the hospital. It was only matter of time when they confessed their love. She dint know how their future looked like, but she was happy to have these two weeks with him, and they both wanted to make the most out of it, like normal couples.
She lifted the dew drop off the grass blade, carefully on her finger tip, placed it on his lips and sealed it with her lips. Keeping his eyes closed he kissed her back, as the sun rose spreading its golden rays on these two dewdrops lost in love.
